of
networks
is
an
issue

has
to
be
taken

Underground
cabling
will
be
one
of
the
basic
elements
in
renovation
of
rural
area
overhead
(OH)
line
distribution
networks.
Cabling
improves
network
reliability
and
has
an
impact
on
the
outage
costs
;
as
a
result,
the
lifetime
costs
and
thereby
the
total
costs
of
the
network
are
reduced.

Cable
and
Overhead
Conductor
network
has
the
highest
impact
on
reliability
in
electricity
distribution
,
because
more
than
80 % of the customer-experienced outages
are caused by these Networks.

Conductor
Networks
are
less

but

more
exposed

faults

Degradation
of
the
cable
sheath:
There
are
several
reasons
why
the
sheathing
material
may
degrade,
including
excessive
heat
or
cold,
chemicals,
weather
conditions,
and
abrasion
of
the
sheath.
All

these
factors
can
ultimately
cause
electrical
failure as the insulated cores are no longer protected by the sheathing as originally designed.

Excessive
heating

cable

cause
degradation
of
the
insulation
and
sheathing
material
and
premature
failure.
The
heat
may
come
from
an
external
source
or
may
be
generated
by
the
resistance
to
current
flow

conductor - a particular problem if the cable is overloaded and/or underrated for the application.
